Synonyms found in a dictionary might not be the words favored by the researchers in a given field. To find what those words are, you can try using the subject terms in the library databases instead.
Using the article database Academic Search Elite, click on “Subject Terms” at the top of the page, enter your word in the search box, and click on “Browse”. The database will show you a list of subject terms. By clicking on your word, any related terms will be displayed.
Using Proquest Research Library or Canadian Business & Current Affairs (a Proquest database), open up the thesaurus window by clicking on the “Thesaurus” button on the Advanced Search page. In the new window that opens, do a search on genocide.
The database will give you a list of subject terms. Click on the words for broader or narrower terms. Click on the square beside a term and find the related terms.
